September 2015 Meeting Minutes

Gerry Swormsted,
our new President, presented gift card to outgoing President Michelle Held. A gift card was also presented to out going Vice President, and Program Chair

Gerry reported that the new Board met on August 30th      

September 20th, 1PM to 5PM  workshop lead by June Colburn. It will take place at the Firehouse  on 4th between Central and Lemon. A map will be scanned in and made available to attendees.
There will be a  regular play date on Sunday Sept 27 at the Waldemere Fire Station for whatever members wish to work on.

Sue Garland, Membership chair, reported that we have 114 members.

A discussion about name tags took place. Permanent name tags could be will be kept in a box at the firehouse so they will be available for members at each meeting. Disposable tags will be available for guests at each meeting.

Program Chair Laurie Dunham handed out a list of possible programs and asked attendees to select their top 5 choices and hand them back to her.

June Colburn showed everyone examples of the variety of different things that could be made at the workshop she will lead, Sept 20 using a fusible appliqué method of fabric fusion.  
Bring sharp scissors, pins and camera to workshop.  Kits will be sold for $20. and contain a selection of appropriate fabrics for the project.

Cheryl Martin's daughter, Shield of Freedom project, presented her program to help victims of sex trafficking in Sarasota. She asked for donations to be brought  to the next meeting. The group will be opening a high end resale shop the proceeds of which will be used to help victims . Clothing, Art Work, housewares. 

FAB was presented by Kathy Hayes -Sale will take place 1st week in March. Opening reception, Wednesday March 1. Previous sales have netted $50,000 or more.

Gerri announced that there will be a challenge for two months. Create an apron, work shirt, bib and bring to November meeting.

Sidebar an owl had been found in the stairwell perched near the ceiling on a metal  things and that Audubon Society has been called to help with the rescue.
